Safety Tip of the Month November 2022: Beware the Dreaded Black Fingernail

(Steve Thompson)

When releasing a spring tooth caught under a stripper band, be sure and use a long tool to rake it out from under the band. It has a powerful force when it is released; it will make a fingernail turn black, and it really hurts (see photo accompanying this article). It is not life-threatening, but it will make you say bad things and give you something to look at for about a year.
