DECATUR, Illinois (DTN) -- Bayer has announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to build a new cloud-based set of digital tools and data science solutions for use in agriculture and adjacent industries.

On Nov. 17, 2021, the company said the partnership would bring new infrastructure and foundational capabilities to accelerate innovation, boost efficiency and support sustainability across value chains.

Under the agreement, Bayer announced in a news release that it will work with Microsoft to co-develop new solutions that address critical industry scenarios such as farming operations, sustainable sourcing, manufacturing and supply chain improvement, and ESG (environmental, social and governance) monitoring and measurement.

Specific details of the relationship were limited at posting time, but in email correspondence with DTN, Bayer communication staff provided the following highlights about the partnership:

"This partnership will create and enable a new Business-to-Business (B2B) offering to create off-the-shelf digital capabilities available to startups and established incumbents who want to innovate in agriculture and adjacent industries.

"In addition to co-building it with Microsoft, Bayer will also be a customer of the new B2B offering, using it as the digital infrastructure foundation for FieldView and other customer-facing solutions.

"There will be no impact to the FieldView user experience. Once developed, Bayer will leverage Microsoft's cloud solution as the infrastructure and operating platform for FieldView and other digital solutions going forward.

"Microsoft will build upon Bayer's work in digital farming and data science to support the Microsoft cloud platform. Bayer and Microsoft are building a B2B product offering, not an end-user facing platform like FieldView. Bayer will continue to invest in and develop our FieldView platform, offering unique capabilities for farmers and retail customers."

Bayer has promised additional details. Watch for more information on this development from DTN.
