OMAHA (DTN) -- Scattered rainfall for northern and central crop areas in the 10-day forecast and improving conditions for Southern Plains wheat harvest are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Friday.

SCATTERED MIDWEST RAIN CHANCES

The DTN Ag Weather forecast calls for scattered shower and thunderstorm activity in the Midwest during the next week to 10 days. This trend will offer limited soil moisture benefit for drier northern and western sectors. Crop moisture concerns remain high as corn and soybeans move into their reproductive stages.

IMPROVING SOUTHERN PLAINS HARVEST

Southern Plains areas have a dry and very warm to hot pattern in the forecast through the next ten days. This will be favorable for wheat harvest which has been interrupted by periods of rain during the past week.

MORE NORTHERN PLAINS HEAT

Northern Plains areas continue with a dry and hot pattern through the coming weekend with continued stress to wheat, corn, and soybeans. The seven-day forecast suggests light to locally moderate rainfall. This prospect will be closely watched. Temperatures remain at very warm to hot levels in the forecast.

DELTA AND SOUTHEAST RAINFALL

Showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast for the Delta and Southeast through the weekend. The rain offers soil moisture benefit after a drier trend in the last week. The track of Hurricane Elsa in the Caribbean will be closely tracked by Southeast growers.

VARIABLE PRAIRIES SHOWERS

In the Canadian Prairies, the next week features mostly above normal temperatures and only scattered rain shower activity. Locally heavy amounts may develop in the southeastern sector of the region. In general, soil moisture continues to decrease.

EASING BRAZIL FROST THREAT

Central Brazil temperatures are moderating after reaching frost and freeze levels earlier this week. The cold wave is feared to have caused some damage to winter corn in south-central Brazil.

SHOWERS FOR RUSSIA

Widespread moderate to heavy rain is indicated in the next seven to 10 days for the Black Sea region in Ukraine and Russia. The rain pattern is also expected to extend into the Volga Valley. This would be useful moisture for spring wheat and corn while causing some interruptions in winter wheat harvest.
