OMAHA (DTN) -- Rainfall in the Midwest during the past weekend and continued exhausting drought in Brazil are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Monday.

MIDWEST WEEKEND RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for improved soil moisture in all but the northern Midwest following moderate to heavy weekend rainfall. Additional showers are forecast for the region in the 10-day time frame. Temperatures have a below-normal tendency early in the week and will show a trend toward seasonal to above-normal levels during the last half of the week.

SOUTHWESTERN PLAINS RAIN

Rainfall is noted in the southwestern Plains Monday. This is beneficial moisture for winter wheat and row crop moisture. However, western Texas continues to lag in receiving needed rainfall for the region's cotton crop.

USEFUL NORTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Northern Plains, western sectors had useful moderate to locally heavy rain during the past weekend. Eastern sectors were largely bypassed by the rainfall. The coming week offers scattered light precipitation across the region, including areas which were left out of the recent rainfall event.

SHOWERS FOR DELTA

The Delta will have several occurrences of moderate rain showers through midweek. The moisture will benefit early crop growth. Temperatures running mainly below normal will slow down the rate of crop development.

RAIN FOR SOUTHEAST

The southeastern U.S. has periods of rain in the forecast through the coming week. This will favor crop moisture.

LIMITED PRAIRIES MOISTURE

In the Canadian Prairies, southwestern areas had some occurrences of showers during the past weekend. The next week brings generally cool and dry conditions, unfavorable for crop development.

MORE BRAZIL HEAT AND DRYNESS

In central Brazil, continued hot and dry conditions are on tap for central crop areas. Corn production prospects are steadily being reduced.

DRIER TREND IN ARGENTINA

Argentina has no more than light rain in store through the next seven days. This lighter precipitation will favor row crop harvest.
