OMAHA (DTN) -- More prospects for rainfall in South America and a mixed forecast for spring rain across the central United States are the primary features for the commodity market's attention Thursday.

LIGHT SEVEN-DAY MIDWEST MOISTURE

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for light moisture across the Midwest during the next seven days. Temperatures have a colder trend but no bitter cold is indicated in the pattern.

MINIMAL SOUTHERN PLAINS PRECIPITATION

Moisture across the Southern Plains wheat areas will be limited in the next week. Portions of Texas will have light rain. However, most winter wheat areas will be dry. Severe to extreme drought is in effect in the western sector of the region.

LIGHT NORTHERN PLAINS SNOW

In the Northern Plains, precipitation during the next week will occur in the form of light snow. Actual amounts will be light. Drought is in effect over the entire region. Temperatures will be chilly but not extremely cold for this point in the winter season.

VARIABLE CENTRAL SPRING FORECAST

Updated NOAA Climate Prediction Center forecasts have a variable prospect for spring (March-to-May) precipitation across the central U.S. Above normal amounts are indicated for the eastern Midwest. Near- to below-normal amounts are forecast for the western Midwest. The Plains have mainly below normal precipitation. The drought outlook calls for continued or enhanced drought through the spring west of the Mississippi River.

CONTINUED CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN FORECAST

Central and south-central Brazil have additional rain in the forecast through the next seven days. Rainfall will benefit filling soybeans and offers some moisture potential for the upcoming second-crop (safrinha) corn planting season. Drier conditions are in store for northeastern crop areas.

SCATTERED ARGENTINA RAIN

Central Argentina has additional scattered rain indicated in the seven-day forecast. This occurrence offers crop moisture benefit. Recent rainfall has been above normal with beneficial moisture.
