OMAHA (DTN) -- Some precipitation for the Southern Plains wheat crop and some showers for central Argentina are the primary features for the commodity market's attention Monday.

PRECIPITATION FOR MIDWEST

Light showers fell over the weekend for most Midwest areas with some moderate pockets. The boost in soil moisture may be felt across some of the region, but some areas remain behind. The DTN Ag Weather forecast calls for scattered moderate rain/snow in some areas this week. Winter storm watches and warnings have already been issued in some areas of the western Midwest where several inches of snow and ice accumulation is possible. This will make travel and transport dangerous and could cause some power outages. The eastern Midwest also has chances for scattered showers this week.

STRONG SYSTEM FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, isolated showers fell across the north this weekend. A strong system will bring moderate rainfall across the south and snowfall across the north late Monday into Wednesday. Winter storm watches and warnings have already been issued. Showers may strengthen late this week across southeastern portions of the region late this week. Soil moisture for the winter wheat crop should see a nice boost. Temperatures will fall below normal for feedlots in the middle of the week, but not drastically so. Temperatures should rise again next weekend.

WARMER FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, scattered showers fell across the region during the weekend. Winter storm watches have been issued for the start of the week. Temperatures will rise above normal this week with lower-than-normal stress on livestock heading into the new year.

SCATTERED SHOWERS FOR BRAZIL

Scattered showers fell across a good portion of Brazil during the weekend but were mostly light to moderate. Corn and soybeans in the reproduction to filling stage are finding tough conditions as showers continue to be scattered and lighter than normal. Southern areas have been stressed lately as showers have been more isolated. The pattern continues this week for the most part, with scattered showers, but mostly lighter than normal, especially over Mato Grosso and Rio Grande do Sul.

CHANCE FOR SHOWERS IN ARGENTINA

In Argentina, scattered showers fell mostly across western sections of the country during the weekend with temperatures well above normal, putting additional stress on developing to reproductive corn and soybeans. More widespread showers are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, but dryness will follow behind it through the coming weekend. Areas that are missed are likely to find more stressful conditions.
