OMAHA (DTN) -- DTN has acquired ClearAg, the agriculture and weather analytics segment of Iteris. The acquisition adds new expertise in agronomic and weather-related insights to DTN content, decision tools and data for farmers and agribusiness customers worldwide.

"At DTN we are intensely focused on adding unique solutions to our portfolio that drive value for our customers and clients," DTN CEO Steve Matthesen said in a company news release. "ClearAg is a global leader, offering best-in-class solutions for customers throughout the agriculture supply chain. This acquisition is a natural fit and complements our existing portfolio of agriculture solutions."

ClearAg's real-time, hyperlocal weather information and land-surface models are used to create a number of predictive agronomic solutions, including fieldwork accessibility, field suitability for spray applications, and irrigation scheduling based on crop needs.

DTN expects to leverage its own proprietary weather station network alongside ClearAg's predictive agronomic solutions to deliver accurate, independent crop production insights, the company said.

"This strategic investment boosts our ability and underscores our commitment to serving our customers and the agriculture marketplace with new and innovative solutions," said John Teeple, senior vice president of agriculture at DTN. "Adding their talented staff and predictive analytics to DTN strengthens our position and ability to provide the best available decision support for agriculture companies and producers anywhere in the world."

DTN and Iteris also announced a strategic partnership agreement to pursue future joint opportunities in the global transportation market.
