The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is scheduled to release a decision on whether the monarch should be listed as an endangered species by the end of the year. That has the Monarch Collaborative, a group representing a broad swatch of agricultural interests, pushing to expand habitat.

Farmers can help by growing milkweed in noncrop areas. Seed a Legacy Pollinator Habitat Program is available for private, public and corporate lands in the 12 states along the migration path. Find more information at beeandbutterflyfund.org.
