OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain to continue hindering Midwest fieldwork this week, and a drier and milder 10-day forecast for the central U.S., are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

PATTERN CHANGE FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate-to-heavy rain through the next two days in the Midwest. A change to drier and warmer conditions is indicated from late this week through most of the mid-May time frame. More limited rainfall in the 10-day period will allow for fieldwork and planting to increase. River flooding is likely to continue for a while longer.

VARIABLE FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, mainly dry conditions are indicated through the next week to 10 days. The weather will be cool and then warmer, which favors the onset of more fieldwork.

WET MIDWEEK IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, heavy rainfall this week will delay further summer crop planting progress. The pattern for late week and through next week is drier, which will improve summer crop fieldwork conditions, along with developing winter wheat.

WETTER FOR DELTA

In the Delta, heavy rain with possibly severe storm development is in store the remainder of the week. Wetter and stormier conditions will delay and disrupt planting progress. Northern areas may turn drier during the 10-day period, but it is uncertain whether this will also mean drier for southern areas.

COOL AND DRY IN PRAIRIES

Across the Canadian Prairies, precipitation is likely to average near to mostly below normal during the next 10 days. For some locations this may discourage early planting due to dryness. Temperatures continue below- or well-below normal for a little while longer, slowing the warming of soil temperatures. However, increasing length of daylight will help to warm soils during the period.

DRIER FOR CENTRAL BRAZIL

Central Brazil will see a drier pattern during the balance of this week. This pattern will favor harvest progress of second-crop corn (safrinha).

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA TREND

Central Argentina crop areas have favorable conditions for harvest. A few showers are indicated by the end of this week.

ISOLATED AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Eastern Australia will have only isolated showers over the next five days, with little additional soil moisture after rain during the past week. Western Australia will be dry.
