OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued much-below-normal temperatures for the Midwest, snow and very cold weather for the Central and Southern Plains, and generally favorable South America conditions, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

VERY COLD FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for extreme cold conditions later this weekend and early next week to increase stress to livestock. We're expecting extreme cold conditions on Sunday and Monday in west and central Midwest, with the average temperatures dropping 25 to 35 degrees below normal. Snow through southern and east-central areas late this weekend will affect travel and transport for these areas. The long-range outlook suggests variable temperatures and an increased risk for more stormy weather toward the end of next week or next weekend.

HARSH SOUTHERN PLAINS COLD

In the Southern Plains, snow tonight and Saturday is expected to affect travel and transport in Kansas, while also increasing stress to livestock. The heaviest snow may fall east of the key feedlots in southwest Kansas, but the feedlots will see some light-to-moderate snow, at least. Very cold weather Monday morning may see some lows approaching minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit in north Kansas and Nebraska. Snow cover in the area should help protect the winter wheat crop from winterkill but bears watching. In the six- to 10-day outlook, temperatures are expected to vary somewhat. Precipitation is forecast to be as near to below normal west, near to above normal east.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL PATTERN

No significant concerns for seasonal fieldwork in Brazil, except possibly in locally heavy showers. This includes the harvest of soybeans and corn, and the planting effort for second-crop corn in the region. Prior rains will favor development of second-crop corn in Brazil, while a drying trend is possible in some locations.

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA CONDITIONS

A variable temperature pattern and some scattered showers will favor filling crops in central and southern areas of Argentina during the next five to seven days.
