OMAHA (DTN) -- A large-scale winter storm system in the Midwest, and more rain for Brazil's major crop areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

LARGE MIDWEST STORM

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for widespread winter storm conditions in the Midwest through the rest of this week. Moderate to heavy freezing precipitation and snow, along with periods of cold weather, will stress livestock and disrupt transportation and travel. Significant spring snowmelt and precipitation are expected to lead to delays in fieldwork.

SOUTHERN PLAINS SNOW AND COLD

In the Southern Plains, snow and freezing precipitation will be stressful to livestock and affect transportation. Meanwhile, the precipitation will benefit winter wheat.

CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

Across Brazil, the rainy season has redeveloped in central crop areas. The rain is providing favorable moisture for developing second-crop corn, but will cause some disruptions to the soybean harvest. In southern Brazil, conditions are mostly favorable for late-filling, maturing and harvesting soybeans.

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA TREND

Argentina has an additional round of favorable crop weather, with periods of light to moderate rain, along with seasonal temperatures over the primary crop areas through the next week.

VARIABLE EUROPE TRENDS

Across Europe through the Black Sea region, conditions are favorable for overwintering crops. Autumn drought limited winter crop emergence and establishment from eastern France and the Low Countries into Germany and northwestern Poland, as well as portions of the western and central Balkans. In the Black Sea region, wintering conditions for crops in the European part of Russia are reportedly largely favorable. Snow cover is close to average or above average in most areas.

ACTIVE CHINA PATTERN

In China, conditions have highlighted an active fall and winter period near the Yangtze River valley of eastern China. This will provide favorable moisture for crops in the region in spring. This is mainly affecting the winter rapeseed crop, but the moisture has at times extended into the southern winter wheat belt. The northern winter wheat areas have been drier, typical for this area during the winter months.
