OMAHA (DTN) -- Still generally favorable weather for Brazil, heavy rain returning to Argentina, conditions improving in the U.S. after a weekend storm in Delta and southeast U.S., and variable temperatures this week in the U.S., are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MORE FAVORABLE WEATHER FOR MIDWEST, NORTHERN PLAINS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for episodes of wet and cold weather continuing to affect the remaining corn and soybean harvest in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Quality issues and some crop losses to soybeans are expected. There's more favorable weather for any remaining corn harvest elsewhere in the Midwest and in the Northern Plains, with limited precipitation and a bit of a warmer trend, especially in the western Midwest.

PRECIPITATION IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains will have favorable conditions for winter wheat in the Southern Plains; there are more chances for precipitation this week in southeast areas. Snow in west Texas late last week increased stress to livestock for a time, but mostly south of the Texas Panhandle. West Texas, in and around Lubbock, had 4 to 10 inches of snow early in the weekend, and there was heavy rain and thunderstorms through eastern and central Texas during that time. There was also a little light rain or mixed precipitation in southern Oklahoma.

BENEFICIAL CONDITIONS FOR BRAZIL

Less rainfall at this time favors developing soybeans throughout the major growing areas of Brazil. Some beneficial showers and thunderstorms return to southern Brazil later in the week.

NEW ROUND OF ARGENTINA RAIN AHEAD

Argentina had a recent stretch of drier weather that is mostly favorable for planting and early development of spring-planted crops and for the harvest of winter wheat. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will return to the central growing belt this week, threatening to cause flooding.

DRIER AND COLDER FOR EUROPE

Recent moderate to heavy rainfall and above-normal temperatures have likely improved soil moisture for key growing areas in and near Germany. It is likely to be drier and colder during this week, limiting the overall benefit of the recent rains.

MIXED SOUTH AFRICA PATTERN

South Africa crop areas had scattered moderate to locally heavy showers and thunderstorms developed through north, central and east maize areas and major sugarcane areas during the weekend. This improves and maintains more favorable conditions for these crop areas. Southwest maize areas had only scattered light showers. Temperatures turned lower. The weather during this week looks to be drier and somewhat hotter again.
