OMAHA (DTN) -- Chances for precipitation in the Midwest and generally favorable conditions for crops in Brazil and Argentina are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

RAIN DELAYS IN SOME PARTS OF MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for wet conditions in the Midwest that will lead to harvest delays in northwest areas and in much of the east Friday. Additional delays are possible in the north and east areas at times during the weekend. Next week the problem areas shift into the south and east-central Midwest areas, due to heavier rain chances, while in the northwest improving conditions are expected.

IMPROVING CONDITIONS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, wet conditions after recent rains will delay planting progress for wheat. Drier weather lasting through Monday, possibly Tuesday as well, should help improve conditions for fieldwork.

LIGHT NORTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

In the Northern Plains, Episodes of light rain or showers in north-central and northeast areas will lead to some delays in seasonal fieldwork during the weekend. Improving conditions are expected next week.

WET IN DELTA

In the Delta, a wet pattern looks to continue with episodes of cool weather as well. This pattern delays seasonal fieldwork, but favors development of soft red winter wheat.

DRIER, WARMER IN WEST TEXAS

In west Texas, sunny and warm weather will help improve conditions for mature cotton and harvesting through next Tuesday. Showers and cooler conditions are expected Wednesday, but no lasting rain is indicated at this time.

BENEFICIAL BRAZIL SHOWERS

Brazil's recent showers, along with showers during the weekend, will favor early soybeans through north and central crop areas before drier weather develops next week. Soybean and full-season corn areas from Parana to Rio Grande do Sul will benefit from periods of showers and warm weather.

MOSTLY FAVORABLE ARGENTINA TREND

In central Argentina, increasing coverage of showers and thundershowers will improve soil moisture and favor early planted crops. Some delays in seasonal fieldwork are expected, but nothing major at this time.

POSSIBLE EUROPE SHOWERS

Portions of France, Germany and western Poland need rain to ensure favorable moisture for prewinter development of winter grains and oilseeds. Western Poland saw rain this week. South and east France and Germany may see increased chances for rain during the coming days as the region turns colder and more unsettled for a time.

HOT, DRY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Hot, dry weather is expected through early next week in South Africa's maize and sugarcane areas. Soil moisture will diminish, possibly leading to slowdowns in planting for maize, especially in western areas. There appears to be some chance for cooler weather and increasing showers later in the week, especially in eastern maize and major sugarcane areas.

MORE RAIN NEEDED IN AUSTRALIA

Recent showers improved conditions for filling wheat in Western Australia and through the southeast areas of Australia. However, these areas have again turned drier. Increasing showers and thundershowers in northern New South Wales and southern Queensland during the past few weeks is likely too late to significantly improve the winter wheat crop, but the added rains should help improve soil moisture and irrigation for sorghum and cotton.
