OMAHA (DTN) -- Favorable conditions for the Midwest crop and heat and drought affecting crops in Europe, Australia and Russia, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

COOL, DRIER MIDWEST TREND

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for no significant hot weather to affect reproductive crops in the Midwest during the next seven days. Drier weather is expected for much of this week, except far west and southwest areas. Soil moisture should support favorable development in the Midwest. Northern Missouri is still dry and needs rain. The showers in northern Missouri have been pushed back to the weekend.

LESS CROP STRESS FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Central and Southern Plains, increasing showers and cooler weather during this week should help ease stress in corn and soybean crops in key growing areas of Nebraska and Kansas.

COOLER, DRIER TREND FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

For the Northern Plains, a drying trend continues for the key growing areas of North Dakota. It will be cooler for a few more days and then warmer. Mostly favorable conditions are seen for filling crops, although local areas may become too dry.

LIMITED RAIN FOR CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Showers remain fairly limited for the Canadian Prairies during the next seven days. Temperatures vary somewhat during this time: It will be cooler at this time but should turn warm to hot again later this weekend and early next week. Drier weather increases stress to filling crops, especially through southwest and central areas, and especially canola.

DRYNESS, HIGH TEMPERATURES AFFECT EUROPE

Hot, dry weather continued over England, France and Germany yesterday. Highs reached the low 90s Fahrenheit, 15 to 20 degrees above normal. Spring and summer drought has already affected winter wheat in these locations. Spring grains and oilseeds are now being hurt as well. Cooler weather and a few showers this weekend will not be enough to change the situation significantly and warmer to hotter weather may follow.

SOME IMPROVEMENT FOR UKRAINE, RUSSIA

Recent rain and less hot weather has helped ease stress to late reproductive and filling corn in the south and east Ukraine and south Russia, but is unlikely to significantly improve prospects after the extremes of this summer. A more showery pattern would benefit filling sunflowers more than corn at this time. Recent generous rains have improved prospects in key sugarbeet areas of west and north Ukraine and Belarus.

MORE RAIN NEEDED IN NORTH CHINA

Northeastern China had scattered thunderstorms and cooler weather move through southern areas during the past 24 hours, occurring mainly in west and north areas. This will help ease dryness concerns, somewhat, but more rain will be needed. Key growing areas for soybeans continue to do better than corn areas.

HEAT CONTINUES IN CENTRAL CHINA

In central China, a few thunderstorms were reported in northeast areas yesterday. Hot weather was seen in south and east-central areas. Highs were in the upper 90s and low 100s F in these locations. Temperatures continue mostly above normal and rainfall below normal during the next seven days. However, there is at least a chance for scattered afternoon thundershowers in the central areas during the next one to three days.

RAIN, THUNDERSTORMS IN INDIA

Rains are now mostly in the north India region, including the central interior locations. These areas should see episodes of scattered thunderstorms and rain, as well as lower temperatures. The Gujarat area is on the edge of the activity and is mainly dry, but occasionally rain develops in eastern areas. Southern India is drier at this time.
