OMAHA (DTN) -- Cooler weather this week for the Midwest leading to generally favorable crop conditions in the U.S. and continued dryness concerns for crops in Europe are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

COOL, DRIER MIDWEST TREND

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for no significant hot weather to affect reproductive crops in the Midwest during the next seven days. Drier weather is expected for much of this week, except far west and southwest areas. Soil moisture should support favorable development in the Midwest. Northern Missouri is still quite dry and needs rain to prevent further declines in yields potential. There is a chance for some showers in northern Missouri during the week.

VARIABLE TEMPERATURES FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Central and Southern Plains, increasing showers and cooler weather during this week should help ease stress in corn and soybean crops in key growing areas of Nebraska and Kansas. Southern areas of the Southern Plains will see near- to above-normal temperatures from today until Thursday, and well-above-normal temperatures for central and north Texas. In the six- to 10-day outlook, temperatures are expected to vary somewhat; it is expected to be cool in the period, although warmer late during the timeframe. Rainfall is forecast to be near to below normal.

DRIER TREND FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains' crop areas will see favorable soil moisture for developing corn and soybeans. Little rainfall during the next seven to 10 days will deplete soil moisture; however, due to a lack of hot weather, little crop stress is expected. There is a chance for scattered showers next Tuesday.

LIMITED RAIN FOR CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Showers remain fairly limited for the Canadian Prairies during the next seven days. Temperatures vary somewhat during this time. Drier weather increases stress to filling crops, especially through southwest and central areas.

DRYNESS AFFECTING EUROPEAN CROPS

Early and mid-summer dryness and heat are reported to have affected winter wheat yields and production in many western and northern Europe areas. Drought impact on wheat has been noted in England, France, Germany and Scandinavia areas, as well as in Ukraine and south Russia. The dry and hot pattern continues at this time in northwest and north Europe, but has recently eased somewhat in northeast Europe.

SOME IMPROVEMENT FOR UKRAINE, RUSSIA

Recent rain and less hot weather has helped ease stress to late reproductive and filling corn in the south and east Ukraine and south Russia, but is unlikely to significantly improve prospects after the extremes of this summer. A more showery pattern would benefit filling sunflower more than corn at this time. Recent generous rains have improved prospects in key sugarbeet areas of west and north Ukraine and Belarus.

SOME THUNDERSTORMS IN NORTH CHINA

Northeastern China has a weakening former tropical storm that will bring rain and thunderstorms to the region today into Wednesday. Areas near the center of the path will greatly benefit while others may not do so well.

INCREASING STRESS IN CENTRAL CHINA

In central China, a weakening tropical storm Ampil brought heavy rain to Shandong the past 24 hours. There is drier, hotter weather continued elsewhere in the region. Temperatures should average above normal and rainfall should average below normal during the next seven days. There is increasing stress to developing summer crops, especially through central areas, away from recent eastern rains and western thunderstorms.

HEAVY MONSOON RAIN in INDIA

Heavy rains returned to the key soybean belt of west Madhya Pradesh yesterday and also to far east India areas, near Bangladesh. South India turns drier while north India continues to rain, typical of the middle monsoon period.
