OMAHA (DTN) -- Warm to hot conditions across the central U.S. during the end of the month, and more dryness stress in Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

MIDWEST HEAT AHEAD

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for summer-like temperatures to form in the Midwest during the rest of this month. The warm weather, along with generally adequate soil moisture, will be favorable for late planting and crop development. Portions of the southwestern and central Midwest are drier, however, and will bear watching for dryness stress if this pattern persists into early June.

MINIMAL SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, a few showers and isolated thundershowers will be in the region during the next five days, but rainfall will not be sufficient to improve yield prospects for winter wheat. Later in the period, the pattern turns hotter and even drier for the southern part of the region.

PERIODIC NORTHERN PLAINS RAINFALL

An active weather pattern is still indicated for the Northern Plains through the end of the week, with several periods of showers. This trend is easing drought conditions and is favorable for crops.

TROPICAL RAIN CHANCE IN SOUTHEAST

Southeastern U.S. and Delta crop areas have the potential for moderate to heavy rain over the next week, depending on the evolution of a tropical weather system in the Gulf of Mexico. Heaviest rain amounts are likely in the Southeast, with the Delta in line for lighter precipitation.

LIGHT RAIN FOR PRAIRIES

Dry conditions are of increasing concern in the Canadian Prairies. The eastern portion of the region has a chance for some beneficial rain during the rest of this week. This event will be closely watched for easing the dry pattern.

CONTINUED DRYNESS IN BRAZIL

Brazil crop areas remain dry, with very little rain forecast through the next week. Losses to the safrinha corn crop continue. Total Brazil corn production is already estimated to be 20% below a year ago.

NORTHEAST CHINA SHOWERS

Key growing areas of northeast China received beneficial rain during the past 48 hours. The highest amounts and best coverage favored the key corn growing areas while the main soybean areas also had light to locally moderate showers as well. This should favor development of recently planting crops while briefly delaying the planting effort.

DRYNESS HINDERS AUSTRALIA SEEDING

Australia wheat seeding remains delayed because of dry conditions. The most extensive delay is noted in Western Australia. Only scattered light showers are forecast through the end of the week.
