Variable Midwest Rain
OMAHA (DTN) -- Widely variable rainfall in the Midwest forecast, and drought damage confirmed in Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.
LIMITED CENTRAL MIDWEST RAIN
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for widely variable rain across the Midwest during the end of May. Northwestern areas are still in line for moderate to heavy rainfall, which will bring some delays in later-stage planting. Meanwhile, a large portion of the southwestern and central Midwest has a rainfall deficit and the beginning stages of drought. This portion of the region has only light precipitation through the balance of the month.
LIMITED FOLLOW-UP SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN
In the Southern Plains, very little follow-up rain is forecast after some beneficial heavy amounts in portions of the region during the past weekend. Winter wheat conditions in the region continue to be the lowest in the past four years.

MORE NORTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS
Northern Plains' crop areas have seen an active weather pattern with several periods of showers in the past week. This trend is set to continue, with easing drought conditions.
DELTA SHOWERS
In the Delta, several occurrences of light to moderate showers are indicated through the coming weekend. The moisture will be useful for crops.
WARM AND DRY IN PRAIRIES
The Canadian Prairies have well-above normal temperatures and only light rain indicated in the forecast through the end of the week. This combination will dry out soils and may cause some stress to wheat and newly seeded canola.
DROUGHT REDUCES BRAZIL CROPS
Drought damage to Brazil's safrinha corn crop is increasing. Private crop estimates now place the 2018 safrinha crop at around 20% below production a year ago. The total Brazil corn crop is estimated to be close to 30% below the 2017 total harvest. Dry conditions remain in the Brazil forecast through the rest of this week.
