Dry Midwest Weekend

OMAHA (DTN) -- A short-term dry and mild trend in the Midwest, and limited precipitation for dry southwestern Plains areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

FAVORABLE MIDWEST WEEKEND

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a mostly warm and dry weekend across the Midwest. This stretch of open weather will allow for fieldwork and planting progress. However, a round of moderate to locally heavy rain is forecast during the five- to seven-day timeframe, followed by cooler weather. This combination will disrupt progress.

LIMITED SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

Southern Plains wheat areas have limited improvement in moisture conditions. The best chance for scattered thunderstorms next week looks to be in east and south-central areas. The very dry areas of western Kansas, western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle may see only a few light showers during the next 10 days.

WARMER WEEKEND IN NORTHERN PLAINS

A warming trend in the Northern Plains over the next few days, along with scattered light showers early next week, may help improve conditions for planting and early development somewhat; however, progress is likely to remain behind average. The pattern turns cooler and drier again during the middle of next week.

DRIER WEEKEND IN DELTA

In the Delta, a dry pattern through early next week will favor planting progress. Thunderstorms move into the area again during five- to seven-day timeframe.

VARIABLE PRAIRIES PATTERN

In the Canadian Prairies, dry conditions through Saturday will favor spring fieldwork and any early planting in areas where soil moisture and temperatures allow. Rain develops through southwest and south-central areas Sunday and moves into the east Monday.

DRY FORECAST IN BRAZIL

Brazil’s primary second-crop (safrinha) corn areas have a mainly dry forecast through the next week. Some areas may have dry-weather stress developing, notably south-central areas.

MIXED CHINA RAIN PATTERN

In central China, winter wheat areas have a mostly dry 10-day forecast. Drier conditions will be accompanied by spells of above- to much-above normal temperatures, causing some stress for reproductive wheat. Primary winter rapeseed areas have a better chance for showers and more favorable conditions.
