OMAHA (DTN) -- A chance for showers Friday in Argentina, mainly beneficial conditions for Brazil, and some possible rains for the Central and Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

CHANCE FRIDAY FOR RAIN IN ARGENTINA

The DTN ag weather forecast for Argentina calls for very dry conditions to continue affecting corn and soybean development in Cordoba and Santa Fe after the failure of the weekend system to reach into these important growing areas. The next chance for significant rain to occur looks to be Friday, with scattered to widely scattered light-to-moderate showers and thundershowers, but the pattern probably will not generate enough to significantly improve crops dealing from drought.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL OUTLOOK

Brazil is seeing a more favorable weather pattern at this time for maturing and harvesting of soybeans and development of second-crop corn.

SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN CHANCES

In the Southern Plains, a somewhat more active southern branch trough on today's weather model runs suggests a chance for needed rains to occur in north-central Texas and southwest Oklahoma early next week. This is a somewhat uncertain forecast due to the current dry pattern in the area, but model agreement leads to increased confidence in this occurring. It is unlikely that the driest areas of the region, the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and southwest Kansas, will see much from this system, but this will bear watching during the coming days.

FRIDAY STORM IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, North Dakota expects to see snow with melted precipitation of 0.25 to 0.50 inch centered on Friday. The National Weather Service Weather has issued winter storm watches for Friday into Saturday morning. The crop area will benefit from the added moisture, but the snow will lead to transport delays and will be somewhat unfavorable for livestock, at least for a time.

ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN FOR MIDWEST

In the Midwest, episodes of rain, some mixed snow and periods of cooler weather will likely delay early fieldwork during the next seven to 10 days. This is especially likely from east and south Iowa and Missouri eastward, but even the northwest will see snow and some rain during the next seven to 10 days.

A BREAK FOR DELTA

In the Delta, drier and warmer weather at the end of this week and this weekend may improve conditions for spring fieldwork somewhat. However, rain will likely return to the area during the early or middle part of next week and this rain could be heavy.

MIXED CONDITIONS FOR SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa had widespread showers and thundershowers during the weekend with more likely during the next five to seven days. This may favor late-filling maize and sugarcane, but it will be unfavorable for the maturing crop and could delay the early harvest.
