OMAHA (DTN) -- Unfavorable weather for the next few days for South American crops, and limited rain chances for the winter wheat crop in the Southern Plains are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

UNFAVORABLE ARGENTINA TREND

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for dry weather and a warming trend that will maintain stress on crops in Argentina at least into the weekend. The next chance for scattered showers to occur in the driest areas of southern Santa Fe and southeast Cordoba does not come until on or about next Tuesday and even this chance is somewhat uncertain. The hottest weather through Friday again affects La Pampa and western Buenos Aires regions.

VARIABLE BRAZIL PRECIPITATION

Another drier period for key growing areas of southern Brazil is expected during the next six to seven days or so. It will not be very hot, however. Crops, especially soybeans, would likely benefit from more rainfall in more rainfall in this area. Increasing showers in northern growing areas will again slow seasonal fieldwork, especially during the weekend and Monday. This includes harvesting of soybeans and planting of second crop corn. Soil moisture in the major growing areas for second-crop corn remains adequate to surplus at this time.

SOME RAIN CHANCES IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Much of the region remains dry but wheat areas of north-central Texas and south Oklahoma may see some rainfall later in the five-day and early in the six-to-10-day period. During that extended outlook, precipitation is expected to be near to below normal for west and northeast areas, and near to above normal for southeast locations. No damaging cold weather is indicated at this time.

SOME RISK OF SNOW IN NORTHERN PLAINS

There's some risk for snow, at times, in Montana and North Dakota during the next few days, with little elsewhere in the region. There's no major concerns for transport outside of the Montana/North Dakota area.

SOUTH AFRICA SHOWERS

South Africa crop areas will have scattered afternoon thundershowers that will tend to favor southern areas during the next one to three days while northern areas are drier and somewhat hotter. Later this week, central and northern areas may see scattered showers and cooler weather. Conditions are variable across the region for maize. Some areas are likely doing well while some may be somewhat too dry and a little on the warm side.
