OMAHA (DTN) -- Better-than-expected rains in Argentina on the weekend, and a showery pattern for the next few days in South America are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

FAVORABLE WEEKEND RAINS IN ARGENTINA

Argentina saw timely and beneficial rains and lower temperatures over the weekend ease stress to developing corn and soybeans after a period of hot, dry weather last week. The rains were better than expected, with amounts of 0.5 inch to 2 inches, and locally heavier, in Cordoba, Santa Fe and Buenos Aires. The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a showery pattern to continue on and off during the next five days, which will be beneficial for crops.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL PATTERN

Rain in southern Brazil favors developing soybeans. A trend toward drier weather in central Brazil during the next seven days will favor maturing soybeans and the early harvest. There's favorable soil moisture for developing soybeans in central Brazil.

WARMER WEATHER AFTER TODAY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains region sees colder weather early this week, but probably not cold enough to harm winter wheat. A rapid change to warmer weather takes place by the middle of the week. Very cold, windy weather today increases stress to livestock, but the warmer weather after today will be more favorable.

VARIABLE CONDITIONS IN MIDWEST

There are no significant concerns for the soft red winter wheat crop in the eastern Midwest at this time. However, the widely varying temperature pattern might be somewhat unfavorable in some locations. In the six- to 10-day outlook for the Midwest, temperatures are expected to average above to near normal west, and mostly above normal east. Precipitation is forecast to be near to below normal west, and near to above normal east.

UPCOMING WEEKEND PRECIPITATION FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

The Northern Plains is expecting some precipitation as snow, ice and rain this coming Sunday that may briefly affect transport.

WARMER SOUTH AFRICA PATTERN

In South Africa, scattered showers mainly occurred in southern and west-central areas during the weekend. Temperatures turned higher late in the period. The region should be dry or with only a few thundershowers in southern areas into Friday with above-normal temperatures. There is increasing stress to developing and early reproductive maize at this time. Scattered to widely scattered thundershowers and not as hot conditions are expected during the weekend and early next week.
