OMAHA (DTN) -- Mostly favorable conditions for Brazil's crops, variable rains in Argentina, and colder for the U.S., are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

VARIABLE CONDITIONS IN ARGENTINA

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for the current pattern to continue to feature periodic thundershowers for Santa Fe and northeast Buenos Aires, which favors developing crops in Argentina. However, in Cordoba, some areas will benefit from periodic showers, but others may miss out, with a drier trend after today. This area also is somewhat hotter overall. Southwest growing areas are also drying out somewhat, but this area has better overall soil moisture due to prior rains.

FAVORABLE FOR NORTHERN BRAZIL

Northern Brazil has favorable conditions for developing soybeans with the normal summer rainy season continuing.

BENEFICIAL SOUTHERN BRAZIL SHOWERS

In southern Brazil, episodes of scattered showers will maintain favorable growing conditions in Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul during the next week to 10 days. In Rio Grande do Sul, there's a more variable rainfall pattern with a trend toward above-normal temperatures. No major concerns yet, but the pattern does bear watching.

MIDWEST MOISTURE FOR WHEAT, FLOOD CONCERNS IN DELTA

In the eastern Midwest winter wheat area, additional heavy rain is expected in the Delta during today through Saturday. A slow-moving cold front will bring 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally heavier amounts up to 5 inches in total, and this is leading to flood concerns. Some rain reaches into the southeast Midwest as well. This helps recharge soil moisture in the soft red winter wheat belt.

COLD FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, very cold conditions will increase stress to livestock through the north-central U.S. region during the next week or more. However, without significant precipitation in the area, it should not be overly concerning. No significant transport concerns are seen for hogs in and around Iowa.

COLD AND DRY FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, a turn to colder weather will ease the crop into dormancy during the short- and medium-range forecast period. The chance for meaningful precipitation in the driest areas of the western growing belt remains low during the 10-day forecast period.

AUSTRALIA HAS TEMPORARY HARVEST DELAYS

Scattered showers over southern South Australia Monday and over southern New South Wales Tuesday may have briefly delayed the harvest of winter wheat. However, this does not appear to be an ongoing concern.

VARIABLE CONDITIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Episodes of scattered thundershowers through southern and eastern areas will maintain favorable conditions for developing maize and sugarcane in these locations. A recent drier, hotter trend through northwest maize growing areas is somewhat a concern at this time. However, as La Nina conditions remain in the Pacific, it is likely that with time these northwest maize areas will also see a pick-up in showers.
