OMAHA (DTN) -- Final preparations are wrapping up for the 2017 DTN/The Progressive Farmer Ag Summit, Dec. 4-6 in Chicago, and the early bird registration deadline is Nov. 27.

The theme for this 11th annual Ag Summit is "Conquer Ag's Cycles: Strategies to Drive Your Farm's Performance." With that in mind, event planners have put together an array of speakers and presentations that will discuss the issues critical to solidifying a farm business for 2018 and beyond.

The "performance" idea gets a jumpstart with a motivational address by Andy Papathanassiou, NASCAR and motorsports industry innovator. Papathanassiou will discuss how he's built high-performance pit crews in motorsports, and how that relates to creating winning employee teams regardless of the business.

Other subjects include an outlook on the global economy and its effects on agriculture, looks into ag financial health and land and rent price trends, and potential policy changes in the upcoming farm bill debate. Breakout sessions will include deep dives into issues such a hiring top employees, navigating crop insurance plans, using social media to grow a farm's presence in the community, and grain marketing strategies.

Attendees also will hear the latest market and weather outlooks from DTN's experts.

This year's Summit will honor DTN Executive Editor Marcia Zarley Taylor, who created and was the main driver behind this successful farmer networking event. Taylor passed away unexpectedly in February, but not before laying the groundwork for this year's event.

The event will also feature a look into new directions for DTN and The Progressive Farmer and our commitments to building the data-driven tools farmers will need in the future.
