Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Possible significant rain for the western Midwest, and limited moisture for Canadian Prairies crop areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

PROMISING WESTERN MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a series of upper-atmosphere disturbances to cross the western Midwest during the next week with moderate to locally heavy rainfall. A large portion of the state of Iowa is included in the coverage area for these rain events. Moisture will be closely tracked for possible benefit to filling soybeans. Rain is likely too late in the season for meaningful benefit to corn.

SCATTERED SOUTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

Southern Plains crop areas will have scattered showers over the next week with seasonal to above-normal temperatures. This combination will continue to move corn closer to maturity in southern locales, along with maintaining progression at average to ahead-of-average rates in northern portions of the region.

LATE-SEASON NORTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

In the Northern Plains, generally dry conditions remain in effect. This pattern favors harvest of the drought-ravaged spring wheat crop, and increases the risk to late-filling row crops. Light-to-moderate rain during the next five days may offer some benefit to soybeans.

MAINLY DRY IN PRAIRIES

Canadian Prairies crop areas have little to no rain forecast through the next week. This is a favorable weather pattern for harvest of the drought-reduced wheat crop and maturing and harvesting canola. Canola is also likely to be affected by the summer dry pattern but not to the same extent as the wheat crop. Late-filling crops will continue to be impacted by the dryness.

HIGH RUSSIA YIELD OUTLOOK

Yield prospects for crops remain near to above normal over much of Ukraine and Russia due to above-normal rainfall during the past 30 days in much of the region. A recent round of heat has likely reduced crop yield potential in the North Caucasus district of southern Russia.

FAVORABLE CHINA RAIN

Conditions mostly favor reproductive to filling corn and soybeans at this time in northeastern China due to recent generous rainfall. The forecast includes some chance for additional showers during the next week as well.
