OMAHA (DTN) -- Mild temperatures to ease crop stress in the Midwest, and promising rain for the southwestern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

FAVORABLE CENTRAL U.S. TEMPERATURES

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mild temperatures and more favorable weather for pollinating and filling corn and filling soybeans in the western Midwest with some beneficial rainfall along with the seasonal temperature trend. Drier weather in Indiana and Ohio at this time benefits developing corn and soybeans.

RAIN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains crop areas are in line for moderate to heavy rain and mostly below-normal temperatures this week. This rain will be useful for easing crop moisture stress in row crops and cotton. In addition, pasture and hay conditions will improve along with soil moisture for winter wheat planting during September.

VARIABLE NORTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

In the Northern Plains, a few showers are indicated for eastern portions of the region during this week. However, little to no precipitation is forecast for the hard-hit drought areas of the western portion of the region. Hot and dry conditions are causing notable stress to pollinating and filling corn and filling soybeans. Crop losses are expected. Significant losses to spring wheat have already occurred.

CONTINUED PRAIRIES DRYNESS

In the Canadian Prairies, additional episodes of above- to much-above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall stress heading and filling spring wheat and developing canola. Significant crop losses are expected.

MIXED UKRAINE AND RUSSIA CONDITIONS

A variety of crop weather features are in effect across Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine has renewed concerns over the lingering impacts of spring and early summer dryness in north-central Ukraine. Good crop prospects elsewhere in Ukraine. Generally favorable conditions in Russia are in effect, with early wheat harvest reports indicating higher yields than a year ago.

RAIN FORMS IN NORTHEASTERN CHINA

In northeastern China, some beneficial rain showers are noted. This precipitation is most beneficial in Heilongjiang province.

SHOWERS FOR SOUTHEASTERN AUSTRALIA

Australia's southeastern wheat areas have some beneficial rain indicated this week. Rain is needed to support the crop in the spring as winter rainfall deficits have been the worst in five years in many areas.
