Promising Midwest Rain Chance
OMAHA (DTN) -- A forecast change for more rain in the Midwest, and continued dryness in the Northern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
FAVORABLE MIDWEST RAIN CHANCE
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a higher chance for rain in the Midwest during the next seven to 10 days. Areas from central Iowa eastward have the best chances for rainfall. Seasonal to below normal temperatures will also favor crops, especially corn during the pollination phase.
DRIER SOUTHERN PLAINS FORECAST
In the Southern Plains, recent weather patterns have favored early development of corn and sorghum. The area may be somewhat hotter and drier at times going forward, which may increase the risk to crops in the area.
ONGOING NORTHERN PLAINS DROUGHT
P[L1] D[0x0] M[300x250] OOP[F] ADUNIT[] T[]
Rainfall potential during the next 10 days is limited for the Northern Plains. Hot and very hot weather will at times greatly increase stress to crops during this timeframe, especially in Montana and the western Dakotas.
CENTRAL PRAIRIES HEAT AND DRYNESS
Canadian Prairies dryness continues, focused on southwest and central Saskatchewan. Hot weather and little rainfall during the next week to 10 days is likely to stress crops in this area.
LIGHT SHOWERS FOR UKRAINE
Episodes of scattered showers and a more variable temperature pattern will favor crops in Ukraine and south Russia during the next seven days. Rainfall is still needed in the dry areas of north-central Ukraine. Long-term rainfall remains below 50% of normal despite recent shower activity in that area. Otherwise, rainfall has averaged normal to above normal.
HOT LATE WEEK IN CHINA
Northeastern China continues with a hot and dry forecast through the end of the week. After that, showers increase in the region and temperatures trend lower. Rain is needed to support favorable growth of corn and soybeans.
LIMITED WEST INDIA MONSOON RAIN
India monsoon rain remains active over north-central and northeast India during the next three to five days. However, a drying trend is likely for key soybean, groundnut and cotton areas of west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and possibly Maharashtra as well. Temperatures turn higher as well during this period.
AUSTRALIA DRYNESS
Dryness is becoming of increasing concern through key growing areas of Australia. The area of most concern is in the southeast at this time, but areas in west and northeast areas of the wheat belt also need rain to prevent significant declines in yield potential.
