Wet Conditions for Midwest, Hotter for Northern Plains
OMAHA (DTN) -- Wet conditions in the central and eastern Midwest and eastern Plains, and hot, dry weather for the Northern Plains and Canadian Prairies are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.
MIDWEST RAINS, THUNDERSTORMS
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for wet weather and wet conditions in the Midwest to remain more of a concern for crops grown in south, central and east areas than any threat of the western ridge coming eastward. The northwest Midwest is an area that may need to be watched as it may turn drier and hotter at times, depending on the strength and position of the western ridge.
HOT, DRY FOR NORTHERN PLAINS
Rainfall potential during the next 10 days is rather limited for the Northern Plains. Lower temperatures have recently helped ease stress to crops, but there is some potential for hot weather in the region, possibly very hot. This will increase stress to corn, soybean and spring wheat development.

POSSIBLE THUNDERSTORMS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS
The Southern Plains has no significant concerns for mature wheat and the wheat harvest at this time, although thunderstorms may at times slow the harvest. The strong western U.S. ridge is in a position to make the forecast over the central and Southern Plains more difficult. Scattered clusters of thunderstorms may still drop into the central and east areas on northern flow aloft east of the ridge line.
LIGHT SHOWERS FOR WEST TEXAS
West Texas will see a few light showers with locally heavier amounts during the next seven to 10 days. Temperatures vary somewhat from a little below to somewhat above normal. It won't be as hot as it has been recently.
DRYNESS, HEAT CONCERNS FOR PART OF PRAIRIES
In Canada, dryness is of much concern in an area centered on southwest and central Saskatchewan. Recent cooler weather has helped ease concerns somewhat, but it now looks to turn hotter. High temperatures and little rainfall next week is likely to greatly stress crops in the area. Areas farther north and east within the Prairies should not be as hot or as dry.
SHOWERS, COOLER FOR NORTHEAST CHINA
In northeast China, showers and a cooling trend during the coming days will help ease concerns for soybean and corn crops. However, more rain and less hot weather will be needed to end concerns.
IMPROVED INDIAN MONSOON RAINS THIS WEEK
Monsoon rainfall continues to improve across central and north India at this time. Significant rainfall has or will occur through key growing areas for oilseeds, cotton, sugarcane and other crops. This will likely include beneficial rainfall in the soybean belt of west-central India.
