OMAHA (DTN) -- Mostly favorable conditions for Midwest crops, some possible rains for the Northern Plains, and cooler conditions for the Southern Plains this week are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MIDWEST RAINS, THUNDERSTORMS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for rain and scattered thunderstorms for the Midwest during this week with no significant hot weather in sight. The seven-day rain forecast sees moderate to locally heavy rainfall covering much of the Midwest. These are mostly favorable conditions for developing corn and soybeans, especially as temperatures return to more-normal levels. In the six- to 10-day outlook, temperatures are expected to average near to below normal during this period, and rainfall near to above normal.

ADEQUATE TO SURPLUS DELTA MOISTURE

There was rain late last week in the Delta due to post tropical depression Cindy. This will maintain adequate to surplus moisture for crops and is favorable, except for areas of local flooding.

POSSIBLE RAIN COMING FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

More rain would benefit developing corn, soybeans and spring wheat in the Northern Plains. However, the lack of any hot weather limits stress. Some beneficial rainfall is possible during this week.

COOLER FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains has no significant concerns for mature wheat and the wheat harvest at this time, although showers may at times slow the harvest. A cooler period will favor developing corn and sorghum in the region during this week.

DRIER, HOTTER TREND AHEAD FOR WEST TEXAS

Scattered rain and thundershowers today will help improve soil moisture for dryland fields in west Texas. Drier weather redevelops tomorrow and continues the balance of the week. Temperatures will be below normal today and Tuesday and then somewhat hotter again.

SHOWERS, MORE SEASONAL TEMPERATURES FOR WESTERN CANADA

Cool to somewhat cold weather during the weekend slowed development of crops but was not expected to be damaging in the Canadian Prairies. Showers during the week and more seasonal temperatures will favor crops, except in the northwest where fieldwork delays are still of some concern.

WEEKEND SHOWERS HELP NORTHEAST CHINA

There were scattered showers and isolated thundershowers that favored eastern and some central locations in northeast China during the weekend. More rain is needed, especially in the western crop belt. Drier, hotter weather is expected early this week, while late in the week we may see some increase in scattered showers and less hot weather.

IMPROVED INDIAN MONSOON RAINS THIS WEEK

In India, the monsoon has moved northward to cover most of Gujarat and all but the northwest portion of Madhya Pradesh but is still just east and south of Uttar Pradesh. This is at least 10 days behind normal development.

Improvement is expected during this week and there is a good chance for needed rains to occur in soybean, groundnut and cotton areas of west-central India. We should also see increasing showers reach into Uttar Pradesh during the week.
