OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued rain in southern areas of the U.S., scattered light rain in the western Midwest and Southern Plains, dry conditions in Canadian Prairies are items for the attention of Friday's commodities markets.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION CINDY MAINTAINING MOISTURE IN SOUTH

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for rain Friday in the Delta and areas of the Southeast. A flash-flood watch will be in effect due to post-tropical depression Cindy. This will maintain adequate to surplus moisture for crops and is favorable, except for areas of local flooding.

Rain from Cindy will also cover areas of the eastern Midwest, expected through southeastern to east-central areas today or during tonight. Dry or with only a few light showers favoring northern areas during the weekend period. Temperatures will average near to below normal today, below to well below normal during the weekend.

MOSTLY DRY IN WESTERN MIDWEST AREAS

It will be dry or with only lingering light rain or drizzle in southern areas of the western Midwest early today. Mostly dry or with only a few brief very light showers for the weekend. Temperatures will average below to well below normal during this period.

LIGHT RAIN IN AREAS OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS

Light to moderate showers and thundershowers in the Southern Plains with locally heavier coverage are possible in eastern and southern Oklahoma and north-central Texas today. Light showers are forecast today in southern Kansas, northwestern Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. Dry or with only light showers favoring the Texas Panhandle and southern Colorado Saturday. Light to moderate showers southwest and a few light showers otherwise Sunday. Temperatures averaged below normal through north and central areas and near normal south today, below normal during the weekend.

NORTHERN PLAINS TEMPERATURES START WEEKEND BELOW NORMAL

The forecast calls for dry or only a few light showers in northeast areas of the Northern Plains today or during Saturday. Dry Sunday. Temperatures average below to well below normal today and Saturday, near normal west and below normal east Sunday.

MOSTLY DRY IN CANADA PROVINCES FOR WEEKEND

Scattered light showers today or during tonight through eastern areas of Canadian provinces Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, drier elsewhere in the region during this time. Turning mostly dry during the weekend. Temperatures average below normal today and Saturday, near to above normal west and below normal east Sunday.

DRIER IN AREAS OF CHINA

Northeast China will see a turn to drier weather and high temperatures this weekend and early next week, which will bear watching. That is a favorable weather pattern for any remaining planting of crops. However, soil moisture will be lower, and stress to crops will increase under a drier and hotter weather pattern at this time.
