OMAHA (DTN) -- Dry conditions along with a heat wave across the central U.S. during the next week, and intensifying drought in the Northern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

HOT FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a strong heat wave to cross the Midwest during the next seven days. High temperatures approaching 100 Fahrenheit will develop in the western portion of the region during the coming weekend, and will spread eastward into the eastern Midwest during the three-to-seven day period. The heat will cause uncertainty over corn and soybean crop prospects, especially in areas where wet fields have forced extensive replanting into less-than-ideal conditioned soils.

HOT TREND FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Some intense heat is in store for the Southern Plains through the next week. A turn to hot weather during the coming days will help improve conditions for wheat, after early summer wet and cool conditions. Row crops may have some stress due to the heat, but will benefit from favorable subsoil moisture.

MINIMAL RAIN FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Drought is intensifying in the Northern Plains. Much of the region now is in either moderate or severe drought according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor. The region will see light to moderate rain over the next week; however, the rain will be too late for significant benefit to spring wheat. Row crops will see a more positive impact from the precipitation.

RAIN FOR PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, heaviest rainfall over the next week appears to be for the southern, central and eastern areas. Crops will mostly benefit from the rainfall.

LIGHT UKRAINE SHOWERS

Light showers are indicated for Ukraine through the next five days. This will offer slight improvement in dry conditions for the central areas.

ADDITIONAL INDIA MONSOON SHOWERS

India's monsoon season continues to develop on a near-average schedule. Showers are noted in northeastern India along with the far southern locales. The rains improve conditions for planting summer crops.
