Variable Midwest Rain

OMAHA (DTN) -- Mixed rain patterns in the Midwest, and a stormy trend in the Southern Plains during the next few days, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

WESTERN MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for variable Midwest rain the rest of the week. Western areas remain in line for moderate to heavy rain, causing planting delays but also providing beneficial crop moisture. Eastern Midwest areas will have drier conditions, offering a favorable scenario for planting and crop development following recent heavy rains.

STORMY FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, storms with heavy rain over the next few days will maintain adequate to surplus soil moisture, but some threat to crops from hail and high winds is possible. In addition, colder weather at the end of this week will need to be watched for a freeze threat to reproductive wheat in northwest areas.

RAIN IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains' areas continue in line for showers and thunderstorms through the next few days. The storms and rain will disrupt planting; however, significant progress has been made with recent warm and dry conditions favoring activity.

SLOW PROGRESS IN PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, wet conditions in central and north Alberta, west and north Saskatchewan during this past weekend will again slow fieldwork, including harvesting of 2016 crops and planting of 2017 crops. A return to drier conditions during this week will be more favorable, although colder weather will slow the drying process somewhat and delay germination and early development of recently planted crops.

SCATTERED BRAZIL SHOWERS

Across Brazil, periods of showers in the central crop areas this week will favor filling corn. Production estimates continue to be increased.

SHOWERS IN ARGENTINA

In Argentina, showers this week will cause some harvest disruptions for row crops, while keeping soils well-supplied on moisture for wheat.
