OMAHA (DTN) -- Dry conditions in the western Midwest, snow in the eastern Midwest, dry conditions in the central and southern Plains, heavy rain in Argentina, and light rain in Brazil are items for consideration of Friday's commodity market.

DRY IN WESTERN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly dry conditions in the western Midwest Friday and Saturday. Light to locally moderate showers are forecast for Sunday or Sunday night, mainly in northern areas.

Temperatures will average near to below normal east and southwest and above normal northwest Friday and above to well-above normal during the weekend.

SNOW IN EASTERN MIDWEST AREAS

In the eastern Midwest, it will be windy with snow showers possible through northeast and far eastern areas Friday. Saturday will be mostly dry or with only light showers developing in northwest areas Sunday or Sunday night.

Heavy rain and a turn to cool temperatures that occurred during this week will improve soil moisture in recently drier areas of Missouri and Illinois. However, corn planting will likely be delayed due to the increase in rainfall this week, along with the brief cool snap.

Temperatures will average below normal Friday, near to above normal west and below normal east Saturday, and above normal Sunday.

RAIN IN SOUTHERN PLAINS A BOOST FOR WHEAT

Recent rains have improved soil moisture for winter wheat in the Southern Plains. Warmer conditions during the coming days will promote development of the crop. Additional showers next week would maintain more favorable conditions for wheat.

FLOODING POSSIBLE IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Generally favorable conditions for the upcoming spring planting season are seen in the Northern Plains. However, flooding is of some concern in areas of northern North Dakota due to snow melt and high rivers.

FLOODING POSSIBLE IN CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Flood risk remains high in parts of Manitoba and southeast Saskatchewan as snow melt continues. There is no significant precipitation being forecast for the region during the next seven days. This should help ease the flooding risk, somewhat. The longer-range outlook is somewhat uncertain today.

UNFAVORABLE RAIN LIKELY IN ARGENTINA

Another heavy rain event appears likely this weekend over La Pampa and southern Buenos Aires, Argentina, with moderate to heavy rain elsewhere in the region. Rain is highly unfavorable for mature crops and will likely delay and disrupt the harvests. Losses due to excessive rain and local flooding appear likely due to this weather pattern.

WEATHER SOMEWHAT FAVORABLE FOR BRAZIL CROPS

Favorable conditions are forecast for developing second-crop corn in central Brazil. Favorable conditions are also forecast for maturing and harvesting soybeans in southern Brazil at this time. Rainfall over Rio Grande do Sul during the next five to seven days may favor late-filling soybeans but would be unfavorable for maturing crops and harvesting.
