OMAHA (DTN) -- Mostly dry in western Midwest areas, rain in eastern areas, rain in Southern areas, and favorable growing conditions in South America are items for the attention of Thursday's commodity market.

MIDWEST AREAS HAVE MIXED WEATHER CONDITIONS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly dry conditions today and Friday in the western Midwest. Dry or with only a little light rain developing through northwest areas Saturday or more likely Saturday night.

In the eastern Midwest, snow and rain will change to snow with windy conditions in the northeastern Midwest. Light showers will be seen in other parts of the eastern Midwest today. It will be drier Friday and dry Saturday in the eastern Midwest with temperatures averaging below normal today and Friday and near to above normal Saturday.

The six- to 10-day outlook has temperatures expected to average near to below normal early in the period, above normal late in the period. Precipitation should average near to below normal.

SOME PLANTING DELAYS IN SOUTHERN AREAS

In the southern Midwest and Delta, heavy rain and a turn to cool conditions that occurred during this week will improve soil moisture in recently drier areas of Missouri and Illinois. However, corn planting will likely be delayed due to the increase in rainfall this week, along with the brief cool snap. Longer-range prospects for planting corn are more favorable as it turns drier and warmer during the six- to 10-day period.

FAVORABLE GROWING CONDITIONS IN SOUTH AMERICA

Moderate to heavy weekend rains are forecast with more heavy rain likely at the end of this week in Argentina. Wet weather is unfavorable for maturing crops and will delay and disrupt harvests. Very heavy rains in La Pampa last week has likely caused severe flooding in minor growing areas. La Pampa may experience more rain at the end of this week.

Mostly dry today. Showers and thundershowers develop in the west during Friday or Friday night and move eastward during Saturday. Rainfall may become moderate to locally heavy. Temperatures average above normal today, near to above normal Friday, below normal Saturday.

Favorable conditions for developing second-crop corn in central Brazil. Favorable conditions for maturing and harvesting soybeans in southern Brazil at this time, but it may become wet during the next five days, and very wet in Rio Grande do Sul. Increasing rainfall might favor late-filling soybeans in Rio Grande do Sul, but the potential for heavy thunderstorms is concerning for the mature crop and for harvesting.
