OMAHA (DTN) -- Heavy rains affecting soybean quality in central Brazil, favorable crop conditions in Argentina and a continued dry trend for the southwestern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

NO ISSUES FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for no significant weather to affect transport for hogs or to increase stress to livestock during the next five to seven days. In the eastern Midwest, soil moisture has been recharged this winter after drought conditions in southern areas last fall.

LINGERING RAIN IN EASTERN MIDWEST

Rain may linger today in north and southeast areas in the eastern Midwest, with scattered light showers with locally heavier amounts returning Monday. Above-normal precipitation is seen in the 10-day outlook for the Eastern Corn Belt.

CONTINUED SOUTHERN PLAINS DRYNESS

In the Southern Plains, mostly dry conditions are expected from today through Saturday. The six- to 10-day outlook sees near to mostly below normal precipitation.

WET WEATHER AFFECTS BRAZIL'S SOY CROP

Wet weather in Mato Grosso in Brazil has raised concerns about quality of the soybeans being harvested. This pattern of above-normal rainfall looks to continue during this period. Wet weather favors development of second-crop corn in central Brazil areas. Generally favorable conditions continue for filling soybeans in southern Brazil.

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA CONDITIONS

Favorable conditions continue for developing and filling corn and soybeans in the major growing areas of central Argentina. There has been some improvement in rainfall in the double-crop soybean areas in the south.

DRY IN FRANCE

Recently, concerns have increased over mid-winter dryness in France, especially as crops have broken dormancy about a month ahead of normal. However, this week it has begun to rain and this should help ease concerns somewhat. Also, periods of cooler weather should slow development of crops.

HEAVY RAINS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Thunderstorms with heavy rain have been reported in the South Africa during the past week. This will provide adequate to surplus soil moisture for crops and is mostly favorable, except in areas of local flooding or severe weather. Maize is likely reproductive to filling at this time.

NO COLD THREATS IN UKRAINE, RUSSIA

There are no significant cold weather threats at this time in Ukraine and Russia's winter wheat areas at this time. Prior cold weather occurred during periods when snow cover should have protected the crop from damage. Recent warm weather has melted much of the protective snow cover and even lead to some greening of crops in extreme south areas.

FAVORABLE CONDITIONS IN INDIA

A significant rain event spread needed moisture to the winter wheat areas of Pakistan and India late in January. This should supplement irrigation for the crop likely jointing to possibly early reproductive at the time and will be considered favorable.

RAIN HELPED EASE AUSTRALIA CROP STRESS

Mid-summer hot, dry weather increased stress to sorghum and cotton crops after a favorable start to the growing season during the spring months in Australia. Recent rainfall and cooler conditions have helped to ease stress to crops and will favor late development, especially for cotton.
