OMAHA (DTN) -- Rains over the next few days in South America, and a continuing dry trend in the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

QUIET WEEK IN MIDWEST/NORTHERN PLAINS

The DTN ag weather forecast sees no significant concerns for the Midwest and Northern Plains regions during the next seven days.

DRYNESS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, the mid-winter significant precipitation event recharged soil moisture that will favor the wheat crop in the spring when it breaks dormancy. However, a mostly dry outlook that stretches into the extended 10-day outlook bears watching. There are no significant concerns for livestock in the feedlots at this time.

RAINS FOR BRAZIL

Favorable conditions continue for maturing and harvesting soybeans in central Brazil and for filling soybeans in southern Brazil. There's favorable moisture for planting double-cropped corn behind soybeans in central Brazil. Hot, dry weather affects soybean production in the minor northeast growing area of Bahia.

INCREASED SHOWERS FOR ARGENTINA

A return to more seasonal temperatures and an increase in showers for the central growing belt in Argentina during this week should help maintain current yield prospects for corn and soybeans in these locations. Southern growing areas, mainly La Pampa and western Buenos Aires, continue to experience episodes of high heat that is likely to affect production of double-cropped soybeans, possible some corn and sunflower. Scattered showers and thundershowers are forecast for Saturday into Sunday, possibly favoring Buenos Aires over La Pampa.

FAVORABLE RUSSIA SNOW COVER

Temperatures fell to near zero Fahrenheit (minus 18 Celsius) in south Russia and portions of North Caucasus Russia during the weekend. This probably was not cold enough to cause significant damage to a crop that is somewhat protected by snow cover. It has been much colder than this in portions of the Black Soils Region, the Central Region and the Volga valley but in most cases a deep snow cover will protect winter grains in these locations.
