OMAHA (DTN) -- Mainly favorable conditions for Brazil, an upcoming break from hot, dry weather in Argentina, and a dry trend for the Midwest and Plains are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

NO CONCERNS FOR NORTHERN PLAINS/MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for no significant concerns for the Northern Plains and western Midwest region during the next seven days.

RECENT MOISTURE HELPED SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, the mid-winter significant precipitation event helped recharge soil moisture, which will benefit the wheat crop in the spring when it breaks dormancy. There are no significant concerns for livestock in the feedlots at this time.

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS IN BRAZIL

Scattered thunderstorms in central Brazil crop areas may improve the outlook for second-crop corn, but the rain will also delay the harvest of early soybeans and early corn. Mostly favorable conditions are in effect for crops in southern Brazil at this time.

POSSIBLE BREAK FOR ARGENTINA

In Argentina, Dry and hot weather returns to the key growing areas of Cordoba, Santa Fe and northern Buenos Aires during the weekend and Monday. However, it does not appear to be hot enough long enough to be a big concern for any reproductive crops, especially as soil moisture is still high following early season rains. Hotter weather is expected in La Pampa and southwest Buenos Aires, maintaining higher stress on these more minor crop areas. However, even in this area, the heat should break with scattered thundershowers and moderating temperatures possible next Tuesday and Wednesday.

COLD WEATHER FOR UKRAINE, SOUTH RUSSIA

A new cold event is moving over Ukraine and South Russia's winter wheat area at this time. There should be snow cover to protect the crop from this cold through most areas of Ukraine. However, as the cold or very cold weather reaches the south Russia region later this weekend or early next week these areas may lack a protective cover of snow. This could leave this portion of the crop more vulnerable to damage, depending on how cold it becomes.

WARMER FOR WESTERN EUROPE

In Europe, winter's cold weather is reported to have caused some problems for unprotected winter grains in and around the Hungary area. Very cold conditions, relative to normal, may have also affected specialty crops such as olives and citrus in the south Italy, Greece and east Mediterranean region. Western Europe turns warmer during the coming days and while the east remains colder, it should not be as cold as the earlier cold events have been.

BENEFICIAL SOUTH AFRICA RAINS

Crops in the maize and sugarcane region of South Africa will continue to benefit from periodic scattered thunderstorms and no lasting hot weather.

MOISTURE TO HELP INDIA

A significant rain event is expected to bring needed moisture to the winter wheat areas of Pakistan and India this week. This should supplement irrigation for the crop likely jointing to possibly at the early reproductive stage at this time and is considered highly favorable.
