OMAHA (DTN) -- A drier trend with very warm to hot temperatures in Argentina is the key weather item for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

BENIGN MIDWEST TREND

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for generally mild temperatures in the Midwest through the next week. Rain showers are indicated during the weekend, with a round of snow during the first part of next week. The region is overall frost-free, with variable effects. Precipitation will work into the soil profile; however, muddy conditions will hinder transportation and may affect livestock performance.

IMPROVED SOUTHERN PLAINS CONDITIONS

The Southern Plains have a much-improved soil moisture supply following recent precipitation that in many locales was significant. This moisture will benefit the wheat crop in the spring when it breaks dormancy. There are also no significant concerns for livestock in the feedlots at this time.

WARMER FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Across the Northern Plains, there are no significant problems during the next five days as temperatures remain warm, with well-above-normal values.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL CONDITIONS

Across Brazil, scattered thunderstorms in central crop areas may improve the outlook for second-crop corn, but the rain will also cause some delay in harvest progress for early soybeans and early corn. Elsewhere, mostly favorable conditions are in effect for crops in southern Brazil, despite a drier trend during the next week.

DRY AND HOT ARGENTINA TREND

Central Argentina has a round of below-normal rainfall and above-normal temperatures in the primary corn and soybean areas during the next 10 days. This will favor developing corn and soybeans in Cordoba, Santa Fe and northern Buenos Aires after recent heavy rains and flooding, at least for awhile. Very hot temperatures last into Monday before a cold front cools the region off. However, more hot weather is expected later in the week.

ADDITIONAL EUROPE COLD

Across Europe, Temperatures remain below normal in many areas, and well below normal through southern Europe. However, the latest cold spell is not as extreme as it was earlier this month.

WEEKEND HEAT FOR SOUTH AFRICA

In South Africa, crops will continue to benefit from periodic scattered thunderstorms and no lasting heat. However, it may be warm to hot for a few days before moderating again early next week.
