OMAHA (DTN) -- Only light rain for northeastern Brazil, and possibly too much precipitation in central Argentina, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

COLD WAVE FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a surge of very cold air to move across the Midwest during the six-to-10-day period. The cold weather will delay transportation and increase the risk to winter wheat in terms of potential low-temperature stress.

COLD FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains' wheat areas continue with a dry pattern. Wheat has already been affected by dryness and earlier cold conditions in western areas. A strong cold wave moves into the region during the middle of next week. This new cold air may bring additional stress to wheat.

ARCTIC AIR IN NORTHERN PLAINS FORECAST

In the Northern Plains, a new surge of very cold Arctic air moves into the area during next week. Precipitation during the next couple of days may produce up to 0.25 inch melted equivalent in some locations. After that little is expected during the balance of the 10-day period.

MINIMAL RAIN FOR NORTHEAST BRAZIL

Across Brazil, the northeastern crop areas remain mostly dry. Very little rain is forecast through the New Year holiday weekend. Concern is growing over the potential of this dryness to spread west into high-production areas of north-central Brazil, including Mato Grosso.

HEAVY CENTRAL ARGENTINA RAIN FORECAST

In central Argentina, early-weekend heat will be followed by thunderstorms and more moderate weather Sunday or Monday into Tuesday. Recent rains have favored key corn and soybean areas but have missed some key sunflower areas. North-central sectors may see heavy rain and flooding.
