OMAHA (DTN) -- Beneficial crop conditions in Brazil, and a bitter-cold weekend for the central U.S., are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

WEEKEND COLD IN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for snow, freezing rain and rain from northwest to southeast in the Midwest through Saturday. This mixed precipitation along with very cold weather will cause transportation disruptions and increase feed usage for livestock. A warmer and drier trend is indicated during next week, which will be more favorable.

WINDY WEEKEND IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, a dry, windy and cold pattern is in store through the weekend. Blowout impact to drier winter wheat areas is possible. Cold weather has brought the crop into dormancy. More precipitation would benefit crops in western areas.

THREATENING NORTHERN PLAINS COLD

In the Northern Plains, snow is in store Friday, favoring southern areas. The weather will be extremely cold during the weekend. The lowest temperatures during the weekend will range from minus 20 to minus 25 Fahrenheit in most areas. The weather next week will be warm to mostly above normal temperature levels.

MORE SHOWERS FOR DELTA

In the Delta and Southeast, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is indicated during the weekend for the central and eastern Delta with mostly moderate rain in the southeast. This helps ease dryness concerns. However, more precipitation is needed to end the drought, especially over Alabama and Georgia.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL PATTERN

Across Brazil, mostly favorable conditions for development of early planted corn and soybeans are still in effect at this time. Additional moderate to heavy rains are indicated in the five-to-seven-day forecast. Private estimates for Brazil soybean production have increased from earlier this season due to the beneficial trend.

VARIABLE ARGENTINA CONDITIONS

Central Argentina has another episode of high temperatures Friday and Saturday with highs of 93 to 100 F (34 to 38 Celsius) expected. A cold front moves through during the weekend breaking this heatwave to some extent. However, it may turn hot again Monday and Tuesday ahead of a second cold front. This second cold front is expected to bring needed rains to the region next Wednesday into Thursday.

FAVORABLE SOUTH AFRICA TREND

In South Africa, episodes of scattered showers and warm weather will favor development of early planted crops. Planting in western growing areas is still in early stages at this time. Soil moisture in the west should allow for favorable germination and early development.
