OMAHA (DTN) -- Dry conditions with hot weather in Argentina, and bitter cold forming in the central United States, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

BITTER COLD MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast continues to feature episodes of cold and snowy weather across the Midwest through the end of the week. This harsh cold wave will cause transportation disruptions and increase feed usage for livestock. Some easing in the cold is forecast during the six-to-10-day period.

WINDY AND COLD IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, mostly dry and very cold conditions are indicated through the coming weekend. In addition, strong southerly winds will threaten to cause blowout damage. Moderate to severe drought is indicated over most of Oklahoma, western Kansas and eastern Colorado in the latest U.S. Drought Monitor.

STRESSFUL COLD FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, episodes of extreme cold will maintain high stress levels for livestock during the next five days. Stress will increase due to moderate to heavy snow over the next few days as well.

RAIN FOR SOUTHEAST

Moderate to heavy rain continues in the forecast for the Delta and Southeast. The rain will help to further ease flash drought conditions.

MORE RAIN FOR BRAZIL

Across Brazil, mostly favorable conditions for development of early planted corn and soybeans are still in effect at this time. Additional moderate to heavy rains are indicated in the five- to-seven-day forecast.

HISTORIC ARGENTINA DRYNESS

Central Argentina will have another round of high temperatures at the end of this week, with highs of 95 to 102 Fahrenheit (35 - 39 Celsius) expected. Rain chances are indicated in the seven-day time frame, but this prospect is still uncertain. Southern Buenos Aires province is the driest over the 45-day period from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15 in 50 years, with only 25 to 30% of average rainfall occurring in that timeframe.
