OMAHA (DTN) -- A colder forecast in the Midwest, and continued favorable rainfall patterns in South America, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

COLDER MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for seasonal conditions in the Midwest to finish out this week. The next week to 10 days brings colder weather, with more seasonal temperatures, along with snow for the northern and central sectors of the region. Snowfall potential appears to be light to moderate, but will bear watching.

SCATTERED RAIN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, dryness concerns will continue for most north and central areas during the outlook period. Improving conditions from southern Oklahoma through central Texas are likely due to increasing rainfall. Colder weather should slow growth of wheat during the coming days.

COLDER WEATHER FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, the next week to 10 days feature the lowest temperatures of the season so far. However, conditions overall are seasonal and present no significant stress to livestock.

BENEFICIAL SOUTHEAST RAIN

In the southern and southeastern U.S., showers and thunderstorms early this week should greatly improve soil moisture for the soft red winter wheat crop in the Delta and should help ease drought conditions in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and west through northern Georgia. Additional drought-breaking rains will occur through the southern and eastern Delta and in the southeast Saturday through Monday.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL CONDITIONS

In central Brazil, episodes of scattered showers favor developing soybeans. Mostly favorable conditions for planting and development of crops are in effect through southern areas during this period. In Rio Grande do Sul, the pattern is more favorable for wheat harvest. Wet weather in Parana may slow seasonal fieldwork for a time.

DRY LATE WEEK IN ARGENTINA

Argentina corn and soybean areas will continue dry and will turn hotter during the next few days. This should help ease flooding concerns and may dry fields enough to allow fieldwork in the area hit by heavy weekend thunderstorms. A new cold front with the potential to cause scattered thundershowers moves through Sunday and Monday. This does not look as heavy as last weekend's system, but it will bear watching.

COOL CHINA PATTERN

In central China, cold weather late last week may have slowed development of wheat and rapeseed. Favorable conditions are in effect otherwise.

FAVORABLE SOUTH AFRICA FORECAST

In South Africa, soil moisture at this time is adequate for crops. The forecast suggests a brief spell of drier and hotter conditions, followed by a return of periodic showers with a favorable impact on crops.
