Progressive Agriculture Safety Days

Are you unsure what's below?

Making sure you know what's underground before any digging goes down is an important safety message we share with our Progressive Agriculture Safety Day participants. Through fun and engaging hands-on activities and demonstrations, participants learn:

1. the importance of calling 811 before you dig in the United States, or click before you dig in Canada

2. pipeline leak recognition and response

3. to identify the meaning behind the various colored marker flags.

As the snow melts, a ground ready for planting is beginning to reveal itself. Eager homeowners and farmers are gearing up to start those outdoor digging projects. However, before you reach for that shovel, remember to call 811, the national call-before-you-dig number, to ensure that your buried utility lines are marked. For this reason, the month of April is coined National Safe Digging Month.

Did you know failure to call 811 before digging results in damage to a buried utility and occurs once every six minutes across the United States? Disturbance to an underground utility line can cause damage to the environment, serious personal injuries and disruption of service for the neighborhood, and can lead to fines and repair costs. However, a free and easy phone call to 811 a few days prior to a digging project can prevent this from happening.
