Change the Pump Oil

(Steve Thompson)

READER: I have an older 3000 Ford diesel tractor. I think it is a 1970. I was told that some of the injector pumps on these tractors have an oil reservoir, and the oil should be changed. How do you know if the tractor has one of the injector pumps that needs to have the oil in it changed?

STEVE: If the tractor is equipped with a Simms injector pump, it has a motor oil reservoir, and it is recommended that the oil is changed every time the engine oil is changed. However, that doesn't usually happen. Some of the Simms pumps have a little dipstick, and others have an oil level check plug with a filler plug on the top. There is a drain plug at the bottom of the injector pump.
