Progressive Agriculture Safety Days
Progressive Agriculture Safety Days is helping make a holiday SAFETY list and checking it twice!
If a scooter, bicycle, skateboard or roller skates/roller blades are on the Christmas list, follow up with personal protective equipment (PPE) like knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet. Ensure helmets are fitted properly and children wear them each time they use their new gift. The same rule applies for children and adults using all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) or utility task vehicles (UTVs).
Do you know someone celebrating his or her first holiday in a new home? When giving a gift to a family, consider practicality. Items like smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers may be scarce in a family's home, farm or ranch. Families may neglect to purchase these items on their own because of expense or failing to realize the item's importance; however, they could save a life.
Have a new driver in the family? Give a car emergency kit with items like jumper cables, flashlight and extra batteries, blankets, a reflective vest and nonperishable food items if caught in inclement weather. You can also create customized first aid kits for a sports coach or athlete with cold packs, bandages, splints and sunscreen.
The health and well-being of our farmers and ranchers is imperative. Exposure to the sun, noise, dust and other factors can be detrimental to their health and well-being. Personal protective equipment from wide-brim hats, earmuffs, safety glasses and dust masks to reflective vests and slow-moving vehicle (SMV) emblems may be due for an upgrade and can make a great gift.
