Roger Gifford, Kubota product marketing manager, makes no apologies regarding the tractor company’s latest entry in utility vehicles, the RTV-XG850 Sidekick. “We are not going after the recreational user. Our utility vehicle is designed for folks who want durability without the high price tag of a full-sized pickup truck,” he says.

Kubota’s newest edition to the RTV family is powered by a 48-hp water-cooled gas engine to deliver speeds up to 40 mph. That compares to the top speed of 29 mph for its RTV-X models.

The Sidekick is equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT Plus) with centrifugal clutch for fast response. Its enhanced speed-sensitive electronic power steering (EPS) improves both handling and stability even when the cargo box is heavily loaded. Tuned front and rear independent suspension offers a consistently smooth ride with plenty of clearance, points out Raj Joshi, director, product marketing, turf/RTV. He adds the selectable full-time 4WD system provides superior traction under a wide range of terrain.

With a 2,000-pound towing capacity, the Sidekick can also carry up to 15.2 cubic feet or 1,000 pounds in its heavy-duty steel cargo box. A full line of attachments and accessory options are available.
