DDG Weekly Update

OMAHA (DTN) -- The domestic distillers dried grains average spot price from the 40 locations DTN contacted was $4 lower, at $160 per ton, for the week ended Jan. 3, versus two weeks ago.

Spot truck values are lower as we start the new year. The Eastern Corn Belt is still seeing price weakness because of the quality issues there. Elsewhere, demand has slowed the holidays, which is pressuring prices for now.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Jan. 3 was at 117.97%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was at 51.17%. The cost per unit of protein for DDG was $5.93, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.58.

In their weekly price report, U.S. Grains Council noted that, "DDGS at the U.S. Gulf are at $226 per metric ton for January 2019 delivery and decreasing into the deferred months. On average, 40-foot containers to Southeast Asian destinations were down $1 per metric ton (mt) this week from the last reported price series. U.S. rail freight is down as well."
