DDG Weekly Update
DDG Prices Weaker
The DTN average DDG spot price was down $1 per ton for the week ended Dec. 1 at $105 with price declines ranging from $2 to $12 per ton. Of the 37 locations from which DTN collects spot prices, nine were lower, two were higher than the prior week, and the balance of the prices were unchanged. The value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Dec. 1 was at 89.46% and the value of DDG relative to soybean meal was at 34.09%.
Merchandisers told DTN that the market has been quiet following the short holiday week. Demand has been slow, but is expected to pick up as the weather turns colder. A merchandiser told DTN that Eastern Corn Belt DDG prices continue to be discounted due to the vomitoxin issues in the corn in some areas, but supplies are still moving and not causing an oversupply issue yet.

CIF NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) DDGS prices were lower for the week ended Dec. 1 with prices down 3 cents for first half December at 137 to 140 and down 5 to 3 cents for the balance of December at 135 to 140. There is still no news out of Vietnam or China, which is slowing demand. Sellers so far have been able to keep supplies from becoming burdensome. Also, the USACE reported that the St. Paul District will close its navigation locks to all Mississippi River navigation Dec. 10. and all vessels need to be south of Lock and Dam 10 by then to ensure they can pass through the Rock Island District locks prior to their scheduled winter maintenance. Vessels near St. Paul, Minnesota, must head downriver by the end of this week to ensure they can get through the closing locks. The winter closure will add pressure to the market as export business from the Upper Mississippi River via barge to the Gulf comes to an end until spring and other modes of transportation will need to move product there to cover any ongoing or new business.
