EIA: Domestic Ethanol Output Fell Last Week, Up on Year

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- Overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.057 million barrels per day (bpd) as of March 1, down 21,000 bpd week-on-week and 47,000 bpd, or 4.4%, higher than in the same week last year, according to the latest Energy Information Administration data. Four-week average output at 1.075 million bpd was 61,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.008 million bpd, down 21,000 bpd week-on-week and 44,000 bpd, or 4.4%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.025 million bpd was 57,000 bpd above the same four weeks in 2022.

Ethanol blending activity in the U.S. averaged 874,000 bpd, up 2,000 bpd week-on-week and 4,000 bpd, or 0.5%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 861,000 bpd was 7,000 bpd below the same four weeks in 2022.

Blender inputs at the East Coast were up 5,000 bpd on the week while inputs in the Midwest were down 1,000 bpd, up 1,000 bpd on the Gulf Coast and down 2,000 bpd on the West Coast.

Domestic ethanol inventories ended the week at 26.051 million barrels (bbl), up 29,000 bbl week-on-week and 731,000 bbl, or 2.8%, higher than in the same week last year.

East Coast PADD 1 inventories ended the week at 8.516 million bbl, up 78,000 bbl week-on-week and 167,000 bbl, or 2%, higher than in the same week last year.

Midwest PADD 2 inventories ended the week at 10.418 million bbl, up 402,000 bbl week-on-week and 617,000 bbl, or 5.9%, higher than in the same week last year.

Gulf Coast PADD 3 inventories ended the week at 4.384 million bbl, down 401,000 bbl week-on-week and 137,000 bbl, or 3.1%, lower than in the same week last year.

West Coast PADD 5 inventories ended the week at 2.363 million bbl, down 56,000 bbl week-on-week and 122,000 bbl, or 5.2%, higher than in the same week last year.
