EIA: US Ethanol Inventory Climbs to 12-Week High

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- The Energy Information Administration reports U.S. ethanol inventory continued higher through the week ended Nov. 25 while blender inputs, a measure of demand, and domestic production continued to seesaw.

Ethanol production in the United States reversed much of the prior week jump, sliding 23,000 barrels per day (bpd) or 2.2% in the week reviewed to 1.018 million bpd, 1.6% below a year ago. Data show four-week average production at 1.030 million bpd was 23,000 bpd lower than the corresponding four weeks in 2021.

Midwest ethanol production fell 19,000 bpd or 1.9% to 962,000 bpd, down 1.6% from a year earlier.

Weekly domestic blending activity rose 5,000 bpd to 891,000 bpd through Nov. 25, 8,000 bpd higher than the same week in 2021.

Refiner and blender net inputs along the East Coast PADD 1 gained 1,000 bpd to 320,000 bpd on the week while up 1,000 bpd in PADD 2 to 244,000 bpd as of Nov. 25. Refiner and blender inputs at the Gulf Coast PADD 3 remained at 151,000 bpd and rose 3,000 bpd along the West Coast PADD 5 to 146,000 bpd in the week under review.

EIA reports domestic supply rose 105,000 barrels (bbl) to a 12-week high 22.934 million bbl, 13% above the same time last year.

East Coast ethanol inventory declined 106,000 bbl to 6.972 million bbl as of Nov. 25 while Midwest stocks rose a third week, up 364,000 bbl to 9.360 million bbl, a 25-week high.

Gulf Coast ethanol inventory dipped 13,000 bbl to 3.920 million bbl last week and West Coast stocks fell 128,000 bbl to 2.360 million bbl.
