Potash Prices Gain 3% as Retail Fertilizer Prices Inch Upwards
OMAHA (DTN) -- Retail fertilizer prices are slightly higher for the second full week of June 2021. This marks the fifth straight week where fertilizer prices have been higher, but none have increased more than 5% threshold, which DTN considers significant.
The average retail price of DAP and potash each increased 3% compared to last month, coming in at $661/ton and $454/ton, respectively.
MAP, urea and UAN32 each saw 2% increases from last month. MAP was $719/ton, urea $531/ton and UAN32 $414/ton.
At $365/ton, the average retail price of UAN28 was 1% higher than last month.
While prices for 10-34-0 and anhydrous were higher, they were up less than 1% from last month; 10-34-0 had an average price of $621/ton, while anhydrous cost $719/ton on average.
On a price per pound of nitrogen basis, the average urea price was at $0.58/lb.N, anhydrous $0.44/lb.N, UAN28 $0.65/lb.N and UAN32 $0.65/lb.N.
Nutrien Ltd. announced Monday it is increasing its first-half 2021 earning guidance given the strength in global fertilizer markets and strong operational results. In a press release, the fertilizer giant announced first-half earnings per share is expected to be $2.30 to $2.50, up significantly from the previous guidance of $2.00 to $2.20.
In addition, the company announced it is planning on increasing potash production by 500,000 metric tons (mt), doubling production compared to expectations earlier this year.
The majority of the increased production is expected to happen in the fourth quarter of 2021, with some of this additional production to be sold in early 2022.
"The quality and breadth of our integrated network combined with unparalleled expertise in potash mining and an exceptional transportation and logistic system help ensure our customers have the crop inputs they need to feed a growing world and drives tremendous shareholder value," said Mayo Schmidt, Nutrient President and CEO.
Potash is now 25% more expensive, 10-34-0 is 33% higher, urea is 48% more expensive, UAN32 52% higher, anhydrous is 55% more expensive, UAN28 is 57% higher, DAP is 63% more expensive and MAP 68% is higher compared to last year.
DTN collects roughly 1,700 retail fertilizer bids from 310 retailer locations weekly. Not all fertilizer prices change each week. Prices are subject to change at any time.
DTN Pro Grains subscribers can find current retail fertilizer price in the DTN Fertilizer Index on the Fertilizer page under Farm Business.
